Goethe in the Roman Campagna - by J. H. W. Tischbeim (1787)

Jonathan von Schwanenflügel sings Servant of Monostatos, Pilgrim, Court Master and Chorus in Allee Theater, Hamburg’s world premiere of:

Die zauberflöte zweiter theil

-with music of W. A. Mozart, Ch. W. Gluck and A. Vivaldi

Based on the fragment from J. W. von Goethe “Der Zauberflöte zweyter Theil”, processed by Barbara Hass.

- World premiere -
22.04.2022 at 19.30

Mozart's "The Magic Flute" with the libretto by Schikaneder is still one of the world's best-known and most frequently staged operas. Has a sequel to this huge success ever been considered? A Magic Flute 2.0? Yes, and by none other than Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. With his wonderful language, Goethe set out to continue thinking about this story. He greatly admired Mozart and his music, especially The Magic Flute.

In Goethe's text, the actors are still acquaintances. There are the ones who we know; Pamina and Tamino, Papagena and Papageno. Their relationship as lovers is clarified to another focus. The focus is now on the question of the future of their descendants. Sarastro is chosen to clarify higher questions on his wanderings as a pilgrim and even the Queen of the Night comes at peace with her actions - after all, the curses spoken are ultimately about her grandson.

Goethe's idea is the merging of opposites such as good and evil or day and night. They become the condition for continued existence and further development of mankind. Darkness becomes the existential condition of light. Love is above everything.

Goethe's central invention of the child of Pamina and Tamino, which matures protected in a box to become a guardian spirit, as well as the non brilliant children of Papagena and Papageno, who grow up in eggshells, represent the hope for a better future. The bird children are the product of the carefree family’s happiness, which seems to be in harmony with the title as the "merry makers" and is all the time sure of their indispensability. It is always turbulent and difficult to clarify important questions.
Musically, the production have mainly concentrated on lesser-known works by Mozart put together with fragments of Gluck and Vivaldi. A challenging and stimulating task for the whole team.

A cycle that brings the mysteries to life and sings the composer Franz Schubert's last swan song.

Tenor Jonathan von Schwanenflügel together with pianist Laurits Dragsted will take their audience into the last days of Franz Schubert's far too short life. Through his music, they will illuminate some of the thoughts that we ourselves think it is difficult to talk about. In Memoriam: Bent Fabricius-Bjerre

Welcome to an evening in Gentofte Kino

-which is dedicated to an icon in Denmark. We will all remember Bent Fabricius-Bjerre in the musical legacy he has left behind.

Jazz singer Marie Helmer Mørck, opera singer Jonathan von Schwanenflügel and concert pianist Alexander Ventegodt have chosen to come together to celebrate his unique view of life and his great legacy. Together with the storyteller Maria Junghans, they will present his music, and tell the audience that Bent Fabricius-Bjerre's music is universal, and unites the best of both worlds. That is why we love all his melodies, both young and old. Look forward to an exciting program where well-known tenorists, Marie Mørck's own jazz songs and beloved classical piano works are intertwined with Bjerre's immortal melodies, such as Alley Cat, Forelsket i København and Matador.

Starring:

  • Marie Helmer Mørck, jazz singer

  • Jonathan von Schwanenflügel, opera singer

  • Alexander Ventergodt, piano

  • Maria Junghans, storyteller

The concert is presented by PB7 Music Events.
